Biography Tony Oqutaq

Born: 24 April, 1977

Tony Oqutaq is a young generation Inuit carver residing in Cape Dorset, Baffin Island, Nunavut Territory.

He started carving when he was thirteen years old, rapidly progressing and turning into a very accomplished carver of such young age. He prefers themes such as the bears but excels in representation of all wildlife animals. His sculptures are bold, dramatic compositions in which the manipulation of elegant natural forms, sinuous lines, space and light rival content in importance. Tony Oqutaq is one of the most promising Cape Dorset carvers of the younger generation.
