Description

This carving of a Hunter with Seal by an unidentified carver, possibly from Iqaluit, possibly from the 1970’s, is a great example of the traditional Inuit carving tradition. The carver does in the Hunter especially, draw out the tension of the hunt. The body position of the hunter, the placement of his arms, they all draw attention to the job at hand. A well caught moment and executed in a lovely dark stone with some gold-green speckling and veins. This carving demands attention: a gem!
