Description

This Incised Scenes by Annie Ainalik Parr is a nice small example of Annie’s work  in stone etching.
Annie was born in Cape Dorset, on Baffin Island (Nunavut) in 1961 and currently lives in Iqaluit (Nunavut). Annie is the daughter of the late Cape Dorset carver, Echalook (Ikaluk) Parr and Alika Parr. The carver Nuna Parr is an uncle of Annie’s and her grandfather is the well-known graphic artist, Parr (born in 1893 in Cape Dorset and died in 1969). Annie is known for her stone etchings. Annie began making works of art in 1982. She credits her participation in one of Kananginak Pootoogook’s drawing courses with her current interest and faculty etching into three-dimensional blocks of stone. Annie has also done work creating dolls in traditional dress. Her work in all mediums is distinguished by a fine graphic sense and a rich ethnographic knowledge. She exhibited in 1997 Inuit and the Sea: Canuit, Canadian Eskimo Art, Eindhoven (Netherlands) and in 2001 Nuliajuk: Mother of the Sea Beasts, Houston North Gallery, Lunenburg (NS).
