Description
This carving of a reclining Walrus by Newkinga Nook from Frobisher Bay / Iqaluit is another “little treasure”: small in stature but big in presence. This carving is probably from before 1970. A neat detail are the “inlayed” eyes of the walrus.

” In 1963 I spent two years in a Toronto hospital being treated for
tuberculosis. There I first started carving because everyone was doing it to
get some spending money. I learned from watching some and then tried it.
I like to carve the Arctic Quebec stone best. It is hard and doesn’t
break as easily as most stone does. The size and shape of the stone depends
on what I’ll make.”
