Description
This Walrus by Unknown is at first glance a rather uninteresting, definitely primitive, Inuit carving. However, I found this carving, most intriguing . It seems to be a rather simple, unsophisticated carving of a walrus, at least going by the incisions on the head. However, each time I hold this carving in my hand, my mind starts to wonder, wonder about the carver, wonder about the age of the carving, wonder about the meaning, wonder what was happening when it was made, wonder about Inuit art in general. Although little is known about this carving (at least by me), it does inspire to many a question. An unassuming, but most intriguing little piece.
