Description

This delightful carving “Dreaming of Seals by Lucassie Kenuajuak” from Puvurnituk is a great example of Lucassie’s talent. We see the seashell theme in the sleeping bag, we see the wink in the eye of the dreamer, we see the supernatural, all recurring themes of Lucassie.  Lucassie’s carving has come to us without title , but his dreamer winked at us when we decided on “Dreaming of Seals” as a title. Born in 1946 in Povungnituk (Puvurnituk) in Nunavik (Quebec), Lucassie Kenuajauk is a sculptor who has been working since 1963. The source of his inspiration comes from the majestic nature of the Arctic. He particularly enjoys documenting and interpreting the many Inuit myths and legends. His world refers to the fantastic and the supernatural. His soapstone sculptures are produced with great refinement and attention to detail. Always focusing on the small/minute details, Lucassie Kenuajauk brings to life his imagination grounded in Inuit tradition.
